The Inaugural Japan-Australia Leadership Dialogue

During the visit to Australia by Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan in May of this year, Prime Minister TAKAICHI and Hon. Anthony Albanese, MP, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia concurred on launching the Japan–Australia Leadership Dialogue.
- The inaugural Japan–Australia Leadership Dialogue will be held in Tokyo on 8 October 2026. The Dialogue will be co-chaired by Mr. Michiaki HIROSE, Senior Corporate Advisor, Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (Chair of the Japan–Australia Business Co-operation Committee), and Mr. Stephen Smith, former Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence of the Commonwealth of Australia and is expected to cover a wide range of fields, including political and economic affairs.
- The two Chairs met on August 26 in Sydney and reaffirmed the importance of discussing the future vision for the bilateral relationship in the upcoming Dialogue.
