Courtesy Call on Minister for Foreign Affairs MOTEGI by H.E. Mr. Gómez, Minister for Trade, Industry and Tourism of the Republic of Colombia

On August 27, commencing at 1:25 p.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. Mauricio Gómez Amín, Minister for Trade, Industry and Tourism of the Republic of Colombia.
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI expressed his condolences and solidarity regarding the earthquake in Colombia, and stated that he welcomed Minister Gómez’s visit to Japan so soon after the inauguration of the new administration as evidence that the new administration led by President Abelardo De La Espriella places importance to relations with Japan.
- Minister Gómez expressed gratitude for Japan’s support for the earthquake in Colombia, and showed strong desire to reactivate the ongoing Japan-Colombia EPA negotiations for further strengthening bilateral relations. Based on this, both ministers confirmed that they would instruct the working-level officials of both countries to continue discussions diligently toward reactivating the negotiations.
- In addition, Minister MOTEGI expressed his gratitude to Minister Gómez for handing over an official letter expressing Colombia's participation in GREEN×EXPO 2027, which will be held from next March.
