Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ONISHI’s Visit to the South Camp of the Multinational Force and Observers

On August 3, Mr. ONISHI Yohei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, visited the South Camp of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt.
- Meeting with Major General Garraway, MFO Force Commander
Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI had a meeting with Major General Michael Garraway, MFO Force Commander. Commander Garraway gave detailed explanation about the background of MFO establishment, its duties and activities. He referred to the importance of duties played by the Japanese contingent and that the infrastructure constructed with Japanese financial assistance supports performance of MFO mission, and expressed greater appreciation for Japan’s contribution in both financial and personnel. In response, Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI valued MFO’s contribution to dialogue and continued confidence-building between Egypt and Israel towards peacekeeping which is fundamental to the Middle East peace. He also expressed his appreciation for Major General’s careful consideration to provide appropriate work environment for the Japanese contingent. The two sides confirmed that they would continue to strengthen cooperation. - Meeting with Japan’s international peace cooperation contingent in Sinai Peninsula
Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI met with 4 members of the Japan's international peace cooperation contingent dispatched to the MFO, and received a report from them on their duties. He reaffirmed that they put their effort for implementing duties in multinational mission and working in partnership with other contingent, and contributing for international peace cooperation. Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI applauded their activities and encouraged them to execute their tasks with care for their safety. - Observing infrastructural facilities
Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI observed the RO plant facility, supported by Japanese supplemental budget 2023, which was built by the Japanese contingent in charge of logistic support. He affirmed that the plant contributes stable supply of daily life water to support MFO’s duty, and the visibility of Japanese aid through Japanese flag and the memorial monument.
