Japan-ICRC Policy Consultation (Summary of Outcomes)

On July 23, policy consultations between Japan and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  1. The Japanese delegation was represented by Ms. NISHIZAKI Toshimi, Ambassador for Humanitarian Assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, while the ICRC side was represented by Mr. Pierre Krähenbühl, Director-General of the ICRC.
  2. Amidst the increasingly complex humanitarian situation around the world, the consultation discussed humanitarian assistance of ICRC in conflict zones and other areas where the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japanese NGOs, and other humanitarian organizations face difficulties gaining access. The consultations also covered the importance of efforts based on the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus, as well as of strengthening cooperation with various actors, including the Japanese Red Cross Society, JICA, and Japanese companies.
  3. Both sides reaffirmed their continued cooperation in responding to global humanitarian crises.
