On July 15, commencing at 5:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, Board Chair of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).

  1. At the outset, State Minister HORII expressed his appreciation for Chair Kikwete’s significant contribution to the advancement of global education and noted that Japan places great importance on education as a key pillar of promoting human security and stated GPE as an important partner in this regard.
  2. Chair Kikwete expressed his appreciation for Japan’s longstanding contributions to GPE and conveyed his hope that Japan would continue to play an even greater role in advancing GPE’s efforts.
  3. The two sides reaffirmed the importance of promoting international cooperation in education and confirmed their commitment to continuing close collaboration.

GPE, which was established in 2002 under the leadership of the World Bank, is an international partnership to support the education sector in developing countries with the participation of developing countries, donor countries/institutions, civil society, and private enterprises/foundations.
