Emergency Assistance in Response to the Earthquake Damage in Venezuela

On June 30, upon the request of the Government of Venezuela, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods (plastic sheet (Tarpaulin), portable jerry can, and water purifier) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to Venezuela in response to the earthquake damages.

  1. In addition, a JICA survey team has been dispatched to the site since June 26 to assess local medical, recovery, and reconstruction needs.
  2. The Government of Japan will continue to stand by the people of Venezuela and stands ready to study further necessary assistance, bearing in mid the human security needs.

In Venezuela, a magnitude 7+ earthquake that occurred on Thursday, June 25, caused numerous casualties, including deaths and injuries, and property damage. According to the Venezuelan government's announcement, the damage includes 1,719 deaths, over 5,034 injuries, and over 885 damaged houses, and the full extent of the damage is still unknown (as of June 30).
