The 5th Japan-U.S.-ROK Trilateral Diplomatic Working Group on North Korea’s Cyber Threats

On June 25 and 26, the 5th Japan-U.S.-ROK Trilateral Diplomatic Working Group meeting on North Korea’s Cyber Threats was held in Washington D.C.
- This Working Group meeting was co-chaired by Mr. MIYAKE Fumito, Ambassador in charge of Cyber Policy and Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr. Baek Yong-jin, Director-General for the Korean Peninsula Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the ROK, and Mr. David Wilezol, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Japan, Korea and Mongolia, Department of State of the United States of America. A wide range of relevant ministries and agencies of the three countries also attended the meeting.
- The three countries reiterated their serious concern over North Korea’s malicious cyber-related activities, including its cryptocurrency thefts and IT worker activities, which fund its unlawful weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and ballistic missile programs. The three countries held action-oriented discussions on these issues and confirmed their commitment to advancing tangible efforts.
- The three countries reaffirmed that they would continue to work closely together toward the complete denuclearization of North Korea, including on actions in the cyber field, in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
