The total number of visas issued by all Japanese Embassies, Consulates and Consular Offices in 2025 was 7,862,060, showing an increase by approximately 9% from 2024.

Since 2021, the number of visas issued has been consistently increasing, and the number of visas issued in 2025 was the second highest on record, next to 2019 (8,277,340), just before the COVID pandemic.

The top three recipients of Japanese visas (ranked by nationalities and regions) were the nationals of China, the Philippines and Vietnam, accounting for nearly 80% of the total number of visas issued. Among the overseas establishments of Japan that issued visas, Consulate-General of Japan in Shanghai, Embassy of Japan in China and Consulate-General of Japan in Guangzhou were the top three missions in terms of the number of visas issued. The top 9 missions were all in Asia.
