Courtesy Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII by Mr. HYDER, President and CEO, Business Council of Canada

On June 23, commencing at 10:30 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call by Mr. Goldy Hyder, President and CEO of the Business Council of Canada (BCC), who is visiting Japan.

  1. At the outset, State Minister HORII welcomed the visit to Japan by the “Team Canada Trade Mission,” including Mr. Hyder, noting that this mission, which is larger in scale than the previous one in 2023, reflects the high level of interest in Japan within the Canadian business community and demonstrates the potential of Japan-Canada economic relations going forward. He also stated that Japan and Canada are key partners in energy security, economic security including critical minerals and advanced technologies such as AI and quantum, as well as food security.
  2. Mr. Hyder stated that he sensed a great deal of positive energy surrounding this mission, and added that he expects this mission to be an opportunity to strengthen Japan-Canada economic ties and promote closer private sector cooperation.
  3. State Minister HORII and Mr. Hyder exchanged candid views on the international economic situation surrounding the two countries as well as on the strong business relationship between Japan and Canada and affirmed the importance of further promoting cooperation going forward.
