Japan-Hungary Foreign Ministers' Telephone Talk
June 19, 2026
On June 19, from 4:50 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, at the request of the Hungarian side, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone call with H.E. Dr. Anita ORBÁN, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, who assumed her position in the newly formed Hungarian government last month.
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI extended his congratulations to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Orbán on her assumption of office. Minister MOTEGI also noted that Japan's relationship with Hungary — a member of the EU and NATO, with which Japan shares values and principles, as well as a member of the V4, with which Japan has continued cooperation — is becoming increasingly important, and expressed his intention to strengthen coordination between the two countries more than ever before.
- In response, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Orbán expressed her pleasure at being able to hold a telephone conversation with Minister MOTEGI as her first Asian counterpart she had spoken with, and conveyed her wish to further strengthen the cooperative relationship with Japan, a traditional friend.
- The two ministers exchanged views on the situations in Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific. They concurred to cooperate closely in responding to regional affairs.
