Japan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Call

On June 15, commencing at 3:30 p.m. for 20 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone call with H.E. Mr. Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Islamic State of Pakistan.
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran on a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the cessation of hostilities and other matters as a major step towards the resolution of the situation, and once again expressed his deep respect for Pakistan's proactive mediation efforts leading up to the agreement.
- Minister MOTEGI also emphasized the importance of steady implementation of the memorandum, the actual ensuring of free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and the earliest possible final agreement on Iran's nuclear issue and other matters. He further stated that Japan will continue to support the diplomatic efforts made by the mediating countries, including Pakistan.
- Deputy Prime Minister Dar explained the background to the agreement and future prospects, and both sides concurred to continue to cooperate to achieve a final agreement between the US and Iran as soon as possible.
