Meeting between Foreign Minister MOTEGI and Deputy Prime Minister Chau of Viet Nam

On June 10, commencing at 2:10 p.m. for 30 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Le Tien Chau, Deputy Prime Minister of Viet Nam.

  1. At the outset, Minister MOTEGI stated that Japan and Viet Nam would work together to further strengthen their “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” and to realize a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” (FOIP). In response, Deputy Prime Minister Chau welcomed the success of recent visit to Viet Nam by Ms. TAKAICHI, Prime Minister of Japan, and expressed his intention to follow up its outcomes.
  2. The two sides concurred on strengthening cooperation in various fields, including the economy, economic security including rare earth elements, and people-to-people exchanges. In this context, Minister MOTEGI once again called on Viet Nam to take measures against websites offering pirated manga.
  3. The two sides confirmed coordination on key issues in the Indo-Pacific region, including the situations in the East and South China Seas, North Korea, including the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, the situation in Myanmar.
