On May 21, from 2:15 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by Mr. Christophe BIGOT, EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process.

  1. At the outset, State Minister KUNIMITSU touched upon her own experience as a medical doctor engaged in medical activities such as in the Middle East and Africa, including Palestine. She highly commended the EU’s efforts toward the stabilization of Palestine and welcomed the close coordination between Japan and the EU including contacts already underway between Mr. Bigot and Mr. Okubo, Japan’s Ambassador in charge of Gaza Rebuilding Assistance.
  2. Both sides concurred that Japan and the EU would continue to cooperate toward facilitating the Middle East Peace process, including through support for recovery and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip and assistance to the Palestinian Authority.
