Courtesy Call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU by Mr. Christian F. Saunders Commissioner-General ad interim of the UNRWA

On May 18, commencing at 5:24 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Mr. Christian F. Saunders, Commissioner-General ad interim of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
- At the outset, State Minister KUNIMITSU expressed her deep respect for UNRWA, which plays an indispensable role in supporting millions of Palestine refugees, also pointing out that Japan places importance on UNRWA’s efforts in improving its governance as well as ensuring neuturality including that of education, and stated that Japan will continue to work with relevant countries and agencies including UNRWA towards the improvement of humanitarian situation of Palestine refugees including Gaza Strip towards peace and stability of Middle East region.
- In response, Mr. Saunders expressed his profound gratitude for Japan's continuous support and stated a desire to continue working with Japan.
- In addition, both sides agreed to continue working closely together to address the issues of Palestine refugees.
