Meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs, HORII, and by Mr. Lacroix., Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, the United Nations

On May 18, commencing at 15:00 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, the United Nations, who is visiting Japan.

  1. At the outset, State Minister HORII stated that UN PKO plays an important role in maintaining international peace and security and that Japan has started sending Chief of Staff for the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and will maintain its contributions through UN Triangular Partnership Project (TPP) and other channels. He further conveyed his expectations for the UN's upcoming Review of the future of all forms of UN Peace Operations. .
  2. In response, Mr. Lacroix expressed his appreciation for Japan's significant support and contributions to UN Peacekeeping operations. The two sides also confirmed that they would continue the cooperation between Japan and the United Nations.
