On April 28, commencing at 12:00 a.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Japan-Australia Foreign Minister’s Meeting with Senator the Hon. Penny WONG, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Australia, who is visiting Japan.

  1. Both sides concurred that, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Co-operation between Japan and Australia, and taking Prime Minister TAKAICHI’s visit to Australia next week as an important opportunity, they would further strengthen bilateral cooperation across a broad range of areas, including security, economic security, and the economy, and work together to realize and evolve a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’.
  2. Both sides discussed the situation in the Indo‑Pacific and the Middle East. They concurred that they would continue to maintain close communication, confirming their cooperation in addressing various issues, including ensuring the free and safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Furthermore, in light of the current energy situation in the Asia‑Pacific region, they confirmed the importance of ensuring the stable supply of energy and essential goods in the region.
