Dispatch of Ambassador on Special Mission (Member of the House of Representatives NISHIMURA) to the Inauguration Ceremony of the President of the Republic of Costa Rica

On April 28, the Government of Japan decided to send Mr. NISHIMURA Yasutoshi, a Member of the House of Representatives, as Ambassador on Special Mission to the inauguration ceremony of H.E. Mrs. Laura Virginia FERNÁNDEZ Delgado, President of the Republic of Costa Rica, to be held in San José, the capital of the Republic of Costa Rica, on May 8.

Japan and Costa Rica are important partners sharing values and principles such as freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. Last year marked the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, reflecting their friendly relationship. In order to further develop these traditional friendly bilateral relations and further strengthen cooperation in the international arena, the Government of Japan has decided to appoint Representative NISHIMURA, Secretary-General of the Japan-Costa Rica Parliamentary Friendship Group, as Ambassador on Special Mission, and dispatch him to the ceremony.

In the presidential election held in Costa Rica on February 1, 2026, Candidate Fernández won. She is scheduled to assume office on May 8, 2026 (first term; four-year term).
