The Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Ambassador in charge of Gaza Rebuilding Assistance Mr. OKUBO’s Visit to Belgium and Egypt

From April 19 to 23, Mr. OKUBO Takeshi, Ambassador in charge of Gaza Reconstruction Support, visited Belgium and Egypt, attended a series of meetings as follows, and exchanged views with relevant parties.
1. Belgium
- On April 20, Ambassador OKUBO attended the ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee for Palestine held in Brussels, Belgium. Ambassador OKUBO emphasized the importance of maintaining a ceasefire in Gaza and steadily implementing the Comprehensive Plan to Ending the Gaza Conflict and the need to work on de-radicalization, and introduced Japan's unique initiatives such as the Corridor for Peace and Prosperity initiative and the Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD).
- Ambassador OKUBO also attended the senior officials' meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution held on the same day and discussed topics such as the demilitarization and stabilization of Gaza, and security sector reform in Palestine.
- Ambassador OKUBO took the opportunity of attending the above meetings to exchange views with relevant parties, including Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa.
2. Egypt
On April 22, Ambassador OKUBO met with H.E. Mr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriate Affairs of Egypt, and exchanged views mainly on Japan's contribution measures for the reconstruction of Gaza. Minister Abdelatty stated that, as there is a need to overcome challenges such as security and transitional governance in moving toward reconstruction, they would like to address these issues closely coordinating with Japan.
