On April 10, Mr. ONISHI Yohei, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by Mr. Ahmed Chafra, Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to Japan, and announced an agreement in principle on the Japan-Tunisia Investment Agreement and a logo commemorating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which falls this year.

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister ONISHI conveyed his intention to work closely to further strengthen the relationship with Tunisia, which serves as a key junction among the Middle East, Africa and Europe and plays an important role in regional stability and development, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
  2. Both sides welcomed the fact that the Japan-Tunisia Investment Agreement, for which formal negotiations began in June 2025, has reached an agreement in principle. The Agreement aims to improve the legal stability of investments, and it is expected to promote mutual investment between Japan and Tunisia and further strengthen economic relations between the two countries. Both sides will continue to work on necessary procedures with the aim of early signing and entry into force of the agreement.
  3. On this occasion, both sides announced the official logo to be used in Japan and Tunisia for various events marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Both sides expressed their hope that these various commemorative events will deepen mutual understanding and strengthen the bonds between the people of both countries.
  4. Furthermore, both sides commended the efforts of their national soccer teams, which are in the same group of the World Cup and will meet in June 2026.
