Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ERI by the Delegation of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs

On April 2, 2026, commencing at 5:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. ERI Alfiyah, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from the delegation of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs (7 members), led by Mr. David McAllister, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the European Parliament. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI welcomed the delegation of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs to Japan, the first in three years since 2023. She stated that Japan wishes to cooperate closely with the EU, a strategic partner that maintains and strengthens a free and open international order based on the rule of law and works together to address challenges in the international community.
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister ERI also stated that the security of the Euro-Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific is inseparable. She appreciated and welcomed the EU's clear commitment to strengthening security and defense cooperation with Indo-Pacific partners, including Japan, and its growing interest and engagement in the region.
- In response, Mr. McAllister stated that he was pleased to visit Japan, the EU's closest partner in East Asia. He noted that Japan and the EU share fundamental values and principles and that he would like to further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Japan and the EU.
- Both sides also exchanged views broadly on regional situations and concurred to further deepen the strategic cooperative relationship between Japan and the EU.
