Courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU by Hon. Mr. Marko Mihkelson, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Estonian Parliament, and his delegation

On April 2, commencing at 4:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Hon. Mr. Marko Mihkelson, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Estonian Parliament, and his delegation, who are visiting Japan. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, State Minister KUNIMITSU welcomed the visit to Japan by the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Estonian Parliament and expressed her appreciation for Chairman Mihkelson’s continued engagement with Japan.
  2. State Minister KUNIMITSU also noted that bilateral relations have steadily deepened, including in the field of security. She also referred to Estonia’s efforts in energy transition and advanced industries such as nuclear energy, as well as the establishment of a rare-earth permanent magnet plant, emphasizing their importance from the perspective of economic security, including strengthening supply chains across Europe. She expressed Japan’s strong interest in these developments and its intention to enhance cooperation.
  3. Both sides exchanged views on the regional situation, including developments in Ukraine, and confirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations across a wide range of areas, including cooperation in international fora.
