Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister Motegi by President Akane of the International Criminal Court (ICC)

On March 31th, commencing at 2:10 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from H.E. Judge AKANE Tomoko, President of the International Criminal Court (ICC), during her visit to Japan. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister MOTEGI stated, in order for the ICC to fulfill its role with its independence and security ensured, Japan will continue to provide firm support for the ICC.
  2. In response, President Akane extended her appreciation for Japan’s contribution to the activities of the ICC, including on the financial side, and said that she looks forward to Japan’s continued support.
  3. The two sides then exchanged views on the environment surrounding the ICC and concurred to continue working closely together in order to maintain and strengthen the rule of law in the international community.
