Signing and Exchange of Notes for Official Security Assistance (OSA) FY2025 project to the Republic of Fiji
On March 30 (same day local time), in Suva the capital of the Republic of Fiji, H.E. Mr. TAJIMA Hiroshi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Fiji, and Honourable Pio Tikoduadua, Minister for Defence and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Fiji signed and exchanged notes for 400 million yen for Japan’s “Official Security Assistance (OSA)” FY 2025 project.
- Fiji is a major power in the Pacific Island region, which holds an important position for the peace and stability of Japan and the Indo-Pacific region, and is a key player for the regional security.
- This project aims to strengthen Fiji’s medical capabilities in emergencies, including disaster response, by providing ambulances and other emergency medical care equipment to the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF). It is expected to contribute to maintaining and enhancing peace and security in Fiji and the region and thereby serving the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)”.
- It is also expected that the project will bring synergy with the capacity building projects on Military Medicine Capabilities which have been carried out by Japan Ground Self-Defense Force with RFMF as a part of their defense cooperation and exchanges.
- In the Joint Communique "Lomavata Kizuna Partnership" signed at the Japan-Fiji Summit Meeting held in November 2025, the “the two leaders share the importance of continuing to work closely including through facilitating OSA as a new form of collaboration, to enhance security cooperation between the two countries," and this project embodies the vision described in the Communique.

OSA is a grant aid cooperation framework which provides equipment and supplies as well as assistance for the development of infrastructures to armed forces and other related organizations of recipient countries. By enhancing their security and deterrence capabilities, OSA aims to strengthen our security cooperation with the recipient countries, to create a desirable security environment for Japan, and to contribute to maintaining and strengthening international peace and security.
