The Election of the House of Representatives of Nepal

  1. Japan welcomes the fact that the voting in the Election of the House of the Representatives in Nepal on March 5 (same day local time) has been carried out in a largely peaceful manner without major incident.
  2. Japan dispatched an election observer mission headed by Mr. SHIMADA Tomoaki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, the mission consisted of officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Japan in Nepal, and they conducted monitoring activities on site. As far as Japan’s election observer mission was able to inspect on site, the election process was largely conducted in accordance with procedures in a free, fair and transparent manner.
  3. Japan has been supporting the consolidation of democracy in Nepal for many years. Japan expects the upcoming political process to make progress in a smooth manner and is committed to continuing its support to Nepal’s effort toward further development of democracy in Nepal.
