The 17th Japan-ROK High-Level Economic Consultations

On March 3, the 17th Japan-ROK High-Level Economic Consultations was held in Seoul with Mr. AKAHORI Takeshi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr. PARK Jong Han, Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK), as the Chief Delegates. Representatives from other relevant ministries from Japan and the ROK also attended.
- At the outset, Senior Deputy Minister AKAHORI welcomed the holding of the Japan-ROK High-Level Economic Consultations, while touching upon that the two leaders concurred on deepening the discussion going forward among relevant ministries in order to promote strategic and mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of economy and economic security at Japan-ROK Summit Meeting in January.
- In the consultations, both sides introduced their respective policies they implement under the current situation of the world economy, including the fields of economy, economic security, critical and emerging technology, and energy, and exchanged views on them. In this context, both sides also discussed cooperation and coordination in international arena such as the WTO, G20, and APEC.
- Also, with regard to the Japan-ROK Consultations on Common Social Issues, both sides welcomed that, since the first session in September last year, communication between the relevant ministries and agencies has been accumulated in each of the fields of common social issues, such as low birthrate and aging population, regional revitalization and overconcentration in the capital region, agriculture, disaster management and suicide countermeasures.
- Both sides, under a recognition that the importance of Japan-ROK relations is further increasing in the current strategic circumstances, concurred to continue close communication with a view to advancing coordination and cooperation in each field based on discussions of today.
