Courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII by Co-Chairs of the Canada Japan Interparliamentary Group

On March 2, commencing at 3:30 p.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from The Honourable Stan Kutcher, Co-Chair of the Canada Japan Interparliamentary Group (Senator, Canada), and Mr. Terry Sheehan, Co-Chair of the Canada Japan Interparliamentary Group (M.P., Canada). The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, State Minister HORII pray for the souls of the victims of the horrible tragedy that occurred in British Columbia in February. State Minister HORII stated that Canada is the very important partners for Japan in the Indo-pacific and welcomed the close cooperation between two countries including high-level visit.
  2. In response, Senator Kutcher stated that relations between Japan and Canada, celebrating the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2028, are strengthening further, which is highly gratifying. Also, Mr. Sheehan mentioned the importance of further enhancing cooperation between Japan and Canada across various fields such as the economy and security.
  3. Both sides exchanged views on cooperation in the fields of security, economy, and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Canada, and agreed to continue working together to further deepen relations.
