Courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII by Mr. RIVKIN, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association (MPA)

On February 20, commencing at 2:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by Mr. Charles RIVKIN, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association (MPA). The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:
- At the outset, State Minister HORII expressed Japan’s high appreciation for the MPA’s longstanding contributions to the development of the audiovisual industry and for its co-hosting of special screening of Japanese films and dramas in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in the United States. He also explained the Ministry’s initiatives to support the overseas expansion of Japanese cretive industries.
- In response, Mr. Rivkin stated that he highly values the strength of Japanese creative industries, including anime and manga, and its role in fostering mutual understanding of people of Japan and the United States. He also expressed his intention to further strengthen cooperation with Japan in the audiovisual field and anti-piracy mesures.
- They also exchanged views on further cooperation to promote the overseas expansion of Japanese creative industries.
