Signing and Exchange of Notes Concerning Grant Aid “the Project for Livelihoods Recovery and Nutritional Fortification in Communities Affected by the Border Conflict” to the Kingdom of Cambodia
February 12, 2026
On February 12, in Phnom Penh, the capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Mr. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Ms. Kyungnan Park, Representative and Country Director, World Food Programme (WFP) Cambodia Country Office, signed and exchanged notes for “the Project for Livelihoods Recovery and Nutritional Fortification in Communities Affected by the Border Conflict” (project up to 221 million yen) .
- Due to the military clashes between Cambodia and Thailand, a significant number of civilians have been compelled to evacuate their homes and are facing severe challenges, including damages to farmland, the destruction of basic infrastructure, as well as decrease in employment opportunities and livelihoods. At the same time, a rise in prices of food and other essential commodities has also been confirmed, and access to food and other necessities has also deteriorated.
- Given these circumstances, under this Project, in the border provinces on the Cambodian side, displaced persons, returnees, and community residents will engage in the rehabilitation of damaged basic infrastructure. Through the provision of fortified rice and vouchers to those project workers, the Project aims to improve living conditions as well as the nutritional status of displaced persons and returnees in the target areas. It is also expected to contribute to addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of vulnerable people and to stabilizing the border regions.
