Japan-Ukraine Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting

On February 12, commencing at 2:10 p.m. Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with H.E. Mr. Andrii SYBIHA, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, for approximately 20 minutes. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI renewed his respect for the day-to-day efforts of the Ukrainian people, including Minister Sybiha to bring peace to his country, and reiterated that Japan would never waver in its consistent position of standing with Ukraine.
- Minister MOTEGI mentioned that Japan is providing generators, transformers, and other equipment as support for winterization assistance, in light of the severe energy situation in Ukraine. Minister MOTEGI also briefed Minister Sybiha on the current status of Japan’s support for Ukraine including in the field of recovery and reconstruction, and stated that Japan would continue to work to support Ukraine and impose sanctions against the Russian Federation in coordination with the G7 and the international community.
- Minister Sybiha expressed his gratitude for Japan's various support for Ukraine. Minister Sybiha also briefed Minister MOTEGI on the current situation in Ukraine and the various related efforts by Ukraine for realizing a just and lasting peace.
- The two leaders concurred on working closely on the future situation in Ukraine.
