Grant Assistance to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam: Signing and Exchange of Notes on the Project for Strengthening Resilience against Floods and Landslides in Vulnerable Regions (in cooreration with UNICEF)

February 10, 2026

On February 10 (same day local time), in Hanoi, the capital of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, Mr. ITO Naoki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and Ms. Silvia DANAILOV, UNICEF Representative in the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, signed and exchanged notes on the Project for Strengthening Resilience against Floods and Landslides in Vulnerable Regions (project up to 939 million yen).

  1. In Viet Nam, meteorological conditions such as frequent typhoons and heavy rainfall, combined with topographical features including mountainous terrain and steep river gradients, result in significant human and economic losses each year due to floods and landslides.
  2. In the northern mountainous areas and the north-central coastal region, where disaster risks are high, this cooperation aims to support formulattion of disaster prevention plans to respond to natural disasters such as floods and landslides; strengthen the disaster resilience of evacuation shelters and educational facilities when disasters occur; promote disaster education; and develop recovery plans based on the “Build Back Better” concept. Through such comprehensive disaster prevention cooperation, the project is expected to contribute to the disaster resilience of Vietnamese society.
