Reception Hosted by State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII to Commemorate “the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Nepal and the Visit to Japan by President Paudel”

On February 2, at the Iikura Guest House, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, hosted a reception to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Nepal and the visit of the Rt. Hon. Mr. Ramchandra Paudel, President of Nepal, to Japan. Approximately 130 participants attended the reception, including the President and Mrs. Paudel, and others with ties to the bilateral relations.

  1. At the outset, State Minister HORII welcomed President Paudel's visit to Japan and stated his intention to promote the friendly relations between Japan and Nepal, with this visit serving as a kickoff of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In response, President Paudel expressed his gratitude for Japan's warm welcome, including the welcome reception hosted by State Minister HORII.
  2. State Minister HORII also stated that Japan and Nepal are friends which have fostered friendly relations over many years, and that stability in Nepal is indispensable for regional stability. From this perspective, he emphasized the importance of Nepal’s general election scheduled to be held on March 5 this year to be conducted in a free, fair, and inclusive manner, and stated that Japan will continue to support the consolidation of democracy in Nepal.
  3. Furthermore, State Minister HORII welcomed Nepal’s graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status scheduled this year and stated that Japan will continue to support Nepal’s sustainable development.
  4. In response, President Paudel expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for the wide-ranging support extended by Japan as a trusted partner.
