Joint Board meeting between the Government of Japan and the United Nations Command was held on January 29 to discuss coordination under the Status of United Nations Forces Agreement. The overview of the Joint Board meeting is as follows:

  1. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. YAMAMOTO Mondo, Deputy Director-General/Deputy Assistant Minister, North American Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Maj. Gen. Anthony M. Henderson, Director of Plans and Policy for United Nations Command (UNC). Other officials from both sides also attended.
  2. During the meeting, participants concurred on the Terms of Reference for the Joint Board and discussed the procedures related to the UNC’s use of U.S. Forces Japan facilities and areas in accordance with the Status of United Nations Forces Agreement.
  3. Both sides reaffirmed the important role of the UNC in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and concurred to continue close cooperation between the Government of Japan and the UNC.
