Signing and Exchange of Notes for Official Security Assistance (OSA)  FY2025 project to the Republic of Indonesia

On January 27 (same day local time), in Jakarta the capital of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. MYOCHIN Mitsuru, Chargés d'affaires ad interim of Japan to the Republic of Indonesia, and Air Vice Marshal H. Haris Haryanto, Director General of Defence Strength, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia, signed and exchanged notes for 1 billion 9 hundred million yen for Japan’s “Official Security Assistance (OSA)” FY 2025 project.

  1. Indonesia plays a pivotal role in ensuring stability of the Indo-Pacific region, facing important sea lanes. As a Comprehensive Strategic Partner sharing fundamental values and principles, Japan and Indonesia have been promoting cooperation in security and various other areas.
  2. Through this project, Japan will provide the Indonesian navy with high-speed patrol boats, as same as the last year’s OSA project. It aims to contribute to further enhancing monitoring and surveillance capabilities of Indonesia as a key archipelagic country in the region. It is expected to further advance security cooperation between Japan and Indonesia.
  3. The notes will enter into force on the date of receipt by the Government of Japan of the written notification from the Government of Indonesia about the completion of necessary domestic procedures.

OSA is a grant aid cooperation framework which provides equipment and supplies as well as assistance for the development of infrastructures to armed forces and other related organizations of recipient countries. By enhancing their security and deterrence capabilities, OSA aims to strengthen our security cooperation with the recipient countries, to create a desirable security environment for Japan, and to contribute to maintaining and strengthening international peace and security.
