The G7 Foreign Minister’s Telephone Meeting

On January 7, the G7 Foreign Ministers' Telephone Meeting was held for approximately 45 minutes from 4:00 am, and Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended the meeting.
- During the discussion, the G7 members shared information and exchanged views on recent developments in the international situation, particularly regarding the situations in Venezuela and Ukraine. With regard to the situation in Venezuela, the United States provided an overview of the latest developments and the future outlook.
- With regard to the situation in Venezuela, Minister MOTEGI underscored Japan’s consistent position that, as a country that respects fundamental values and principles such as freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, it is important for democracy to be restored in Venezuela as soon as possible. He also stated Japan’s intention to work with the G7 to ensure the safety of their nationals. Regarding the situation in Ukraine, Minister MOTEGI expressed Japan’s intention to continue cooperating with the G7 and the broader international community in order to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. In addition, Minister MOTEGI provided an overview of the situation in the Indo-Pacific region and underscored the importance of G7 unity.
- The G7 members confirmed that they will continue to coordinate closely on various challenges the international community faces.
