Situation in Venezuela (Detention of President Maduro by the United States of America)

- In response to the situation in Venezuela, the Government of Japan is closely monitoring the situation while prioritizing the safety of Japanese nationals. We are taking necessary measures and working closely with relevant countries, including gathering information.
- Following the occurrence of this incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately established an information gathering office headed by the Director-General of the Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a local response headquarters at the Embassy of Japan in Venezuela. We are also taking measures to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals in Venezuela, such as sending them updates by email and issuing travel alerts. We have been able to contact the most of Japanese nationals in Venezuela, and as of this moment, there is no information regarding any harm among Japanese nationals.
- The Government of Japan has consistently emphasized the importance of restoring democracy in Venezuela as soon as possible.
- Japan has consistently respected fundamental values such as freedom and democracy. Japan has also consistently emphasized respect for the principles of international law within the international community. Moving forward, based on this consistent stance, Japan will advance diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring democracy and stabilizing the situation in Venezuela, while continuously working closely with relevant countries, including G7 members and regional nations, to take all necessary precautions for the safety of Japanese nationals.
