Exchanging Opinions between Foreign Minister MOTEGI and Mr. ONOE, Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau of  ITU

On December 23, commencing at 11:45 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Mr. ONOE Seizo, Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister MOTEGI stated that the ITU’s expertise in the field of telecommunications and information technology is becoming increasingly important, as it celebrates its 160th anniversary, and further expressed his respect for Director ONOE's contributions.
  2. In response, Director ONOE, having expressed his wishes for re-election in the next year, while expressing his deep gratitude for the support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. He also explained the importance of supporting developing countries when promoting standardization in ITU's activities as well as ITU's "AI for Good" initiative.
  3. Minister MOTEGI reassured Direcotor ONOE of the steadfast support for his re-election in the upcoming election in November next year.
