State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII’s Visit to Australia
From December 18 to December 21, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, visited Canberra and Sydney, Australia. The overview of the visit is as follows:
1. Offering flowers and silent prayer at Bondi Beach, Sydney
On December 19, State Minister HORII visited Bondi Beach in Sydney to offer flowers and silent prayer to mourn the victims of the mass shooting that targeted the Jewish community during the Jewish celebration on December 14.
2. Meetings with officials of the Government of Australia
(1) Meeting with Ms. Jan Adams, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Commonwealth of Australia
On 19, State Minister HORII met with Ms. Jan Adams, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Commonwealth of Australia, and affirmed cooperation towards the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Japan-Australia Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation next year.
(2) Meeting with Mr. Andrew Bar, Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory
On 19, State Minister HORII met with Mr. Andrew Bar, Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory, and exchanged views on strengthening bilateral friendship through the sister city relationship between Nara City, Japan and Canberra, looking ahead to the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Japan-Australia Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation next year.
3. Meeting with Australian dignitaries
(1) Meeting with the Hon. Scott Morison, Former Prime Minister of Australia
On 19, State Minister HORII met with former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and exchanged views on strengthening future Japan-Australia cooperation in various fields.
(2) Meeting with Mr. Andrew Shearer, Former Director-General of the Office of National Intelligence (ONI)
On 19, State Minister HORII met with Mr. Andrew Shearer, Former Director General of ONI, and exchanged views on regional affairs including the Indo-Pacific region and strengthening future cooperation.
4. Offering flowers and silent prayer at Canberra Nara Peace Park
On 19, State Minister HORII visited Canberra Nara Peace Park and offered flowers and silent prayer at the memorial for Mr. ABE Shinzo, Former Prime Minister of Japan, located in the park.
5. Exchange of opinions with representatives of Japanese companies
On 20, State Minister HORII had a meeting with representatives of Japanese companies in Sydney and exchanged opinions on the current situation and investment environment.
