The Launch of “Strategic Partnership Framework between Japan and MERCOSUR”

On December 20 (local time on the same day), Japan and Mercosur launched the "Strategic Partnership Framework between Japan and MERCOSUR".
- Regarding this framework, discussion for the launch began last year and it was confirmed in the action plan announced after the Japan-Brazil Summit Meeting during the State Visit to Japan by H.E. Mr. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil in March this year that they would seek to advance discussions to deepen trade relationship under the Japan-Mercosur Strategic Partnership Framework. Going forward, discussions will be held under this framework to further strengthen the strategic relationship between Japan and Mercosur.
- The first meeting under this framework is being coordinated to be held early in the new year. The meeting is expected to be attended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant ministries of Japan and Mercosur member countries.
