Courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU by H.E. Mr. PAQUET, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Japan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary

On December 16, commencing at 1:50 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. Jean-Eric PAQUET, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Japan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- State Minister KUNIMITSU stated that Japan and the EU are important strategic partners in maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law and in addressing global challenges together. She also noted that amid deepening confrontation and division in the international community, the security of the Euro-Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific is inseparable, and that Japan intends to elevate the Japan-EU relations to a higher level.
- In response, Ambassador Paquet stated that Japan and the EU are important partners that trust each other, and that he would like to further promote cooperation across a wide range of fields, including the defense industry and aspects of economic security, such as the strengthening of supply chains.
- Both sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues, including cooperation in the international arena, and concurred to continue to work closely together as strategic partners.
