Meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU and H.E. Malhotra MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Indo-Pacific), Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom

On December 15, commencing at 2:50 p.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a meeting with H.E. Seema Malhotra MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Indo-Pacific), Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The overview of the meeting is as follows;
- At the outset, State Minister KUNIMITSU welcomed State Minister Malhotra’s first visit to Japan and expressed her intention to further expand cooperation between Japan and the UK, an “enhanced global strategic partner” that share fundamental values and strategic interests. State Minister Malhotra replied by stating that she would like to collaborate with State Minister KUNIMITSU to further strengthen the Japan-UK relations, which has never been closer and more robust.
- Both sides welcomed the development of their efforts to strengthen their partnership based on the discussions held at the Japan-UK Economic 2+2 Ministerial Meeting. They also concurred to pursue cooperation and knowledge sharing between Japan and the UK, including for strengthening the resilience of critical mineral supply chains.
- Both sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues, including bilateral relations in areas such as security and economy as well as regional issues including in the Indo-Pacific, and concurred to continue close coordination between the two countries.
