Vice Minister Funakoshi’s Call with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Landau

On December 3, commencing at 7:35 p.m., for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. FUNAKOSHI Takehiro, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a phone call with the Honorable Christopher Thomas Landau, Deputy Secretary of State of the United States of America. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Building on the outcomes of the U.S. President Trump’s recent visit to Japan, the two sides concurred to elevate the Japan-U.S. Alliance to further heights and continue working closely together to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific based on the rule of law.
- The two sides exchanged views on the situation and various challenges facing the Indo-Pacific region under the current international environment and affirmed that Japan and the United States would continue working closely together.
