Japan-Iran Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On December 1st, commencing from around 5:15 p.m. (Japan Time) for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Dr. Seyyed Abbas ARAGHCHI, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Araghchi offered his congratulations once again to Minister MOTEGI on his appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Minister MOTEGI expressed his gratitude.
  2. Minister MOTEGI emphasized the importance of the early resumption of talks between the United States and Iran toward a resolution of Iran’s nuclear issue through dialogue, and urged Iran to immediately resume full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In response, Minister Araghchi explained the position of Iran.
  3. Both Ministers affirmed to continue close communication at various levels between Japan and Iran for the peace and stability of the region.
