Dialogue between Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau KANAI Masaaki, and Chinese Director-General for Asian Affairs Liu Jinsong

On 18 November, Mr. KANAI Masaaki, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, held talks in Beijing with Mr Liu Jinsong, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, and exchanged views on Japan-China relations and other matters.
- Director-General KANAI reiterated his strong protest to Director-General Liu regarding the highly inappropriate remarks recently made by Consul General Xue Jian of the Chinese Consulate General in Osaka and strongly demanded the Chinese side take appropriate measures immediately. Director-General KANAI also made requests regarding the matter of the Chinese government's series of announcements advising caution on travel to Japan, countering that public order within Japan has by no means deteriorated, and strongly demamded the Chinese side take appropriate measures. In addition, Director-General KANAI made requests on the matter of ensuring the safety of Japanese residents in China.
- Furthermore, Director-General Liu made statements based on the Chinese position, and Director-General KANAI countered these statements and explained the Japanese government's consistent and long-standing position.
