Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs SHIMADA by H.E. Ms. Busadee, Chief Executive Officer of the Mekong River Commission Secretariat

On November 11, Mr. SHIMADA Tomoaki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Secretariat. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister SHIMADA welcomed CEO Busadee's visit to Japan. Parliamentary Vice-Minister SHIMADA stated that Japan attaches importance to the stability and development of the Mekong region and expressed Japan’s intention to continue cooperation with the MRC, which is responsible for facilitating coordination and dialogue among Mekong region countries for the sustainable and equitable use of Mekong River.
- In response, CEO Busadee expressed her gratitude for Japan’s long-standing personnel and financial support as a development partner. CEO Busadee also stated that MRC intends to deepen cooperation with Japan on urgent issues, such as flood and drought countermeasures as well as water pollution.
- The two sides concurred to continue working closely together to further enhance Japan-Mekong cooperation.
