Japan-Canada Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting

On November 6, commencing at 9:30 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Telephone Meeting with the Honourable Anita ANAND, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister Anand extended her congratulations to Minister MOTEGI on his assumption of the position. In response, Minister MOTEGI expressed his gratitude for the congratulatory message and conveyed his respect for Canada's leadership as this year's G7 president.
  2. Minister MOTEGI stated that Canada is a key strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific, and welcomed the steady progress in cooperation based on the Japan-Canada Action Plan. Both Ministers concurred on working closely together to promote a “free and open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).”
  3. Minister MOTEGI stated that Canada is an important partner also in the economic field, including economic security. Both Ministers confirmed to accerlerate Japan-Canada cooperation in the economic field, including LNG cooperation.
  4. Both Ministers confirmed to strengthen cooperation, including collaboration at the future G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meetings.
