Emergency Assistance to the Republic of Cuba in Response to Hurricane “Melissa”

On November 5, upon the request of the Government of Cuba, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods (tents, blankets, sleeping pads, and water purifiers) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to Cuba in response to the damages caused by Hurricane “Melissa”.
In light of the humanitarian perspective and the close relations between Japan and Cuba, Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance to Cuba to support the people affected by the disaster.

In Cuba, Hurricane “Melissa” struck the country on October 29, affecting a large number of people and causing extensive damage. Approximately 3 million people were affected by the disaster, including about 735,000 evacuees (as of October 31).
