Emergency Assistance in response to Hurricane “Melissa” disaster in Jamaica
On October 31, upon the request of the Government of Jamaica, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods (tents, sleeping pads, portable jerry cans, etc) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in response to the damages caused by Hurricane Melissa.
In light of the humanitarian perspective and the traditional friendship between Japan and Jamaica, Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance to Jamaica to support the people affected by Hurricane Melissa.

In Jamaica, Hurricane Melissa struck the country on October 28, resulting in numerous casualties and extensive physical damage. The southwestern region of Jamaica in particular has suffered significant damage, and infrastructure vital to livelihood has been affected. 1.5 million people have been impacted (as of October 30).
