On October 29, commencing at 3:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. SHIMADA Tomoaki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by the delegation led by Mr. Alex Kelly, Secretary of Commerce of the State of Florida, who was visiting Japan to attend the 47th Annual Joint Meeting of the Japan-U.S. Southeast Association. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:

  1. Parliamentary Vice-Minister SHIMADA welcomed the Delegation of the State of Florida’s visit to Japan, noting that Japanese companies play a key role that underpins local economic development and employment in Florida. He also exchanged views on how to further strengthen ties between Japan and Florida.
  2. In response, Secretary of Commerce of State of Florida, Alex Kelly expressed their appreciation for the activities of Japanese companies and introduced initiatives including cutting-edge technology fields such as space, aviation, biotechnology, logistics, and quantum technology, promoted based on the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on Economic and Trade Relations signed between Japan and Florida in October 2023, and expressed his desire to continue the efforts to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. economic relationship.
