Meeting between Foreign Minister MOTEGI and Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine Sovolev

On October 22, commencing at 5:50 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Oleksii SOBOLEV, Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine, who is visiting Japan to attend the Ukraine Mine Action Conference (UMAC 2025). The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- Minister MOTEGI stated that Japan's stance that “Japan stands with Ukraine” remained consistent and would not change. He stated thet Japan would continue to work tirelessly, in close coordination with the international community and the G7, toward achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
- Minister MOTEGI further stated that UMAC 2025 served as an important opportunity to share both countries' efforts, including on mine action, with the international community. In response, Minister Sobolev congratulated him on his appointment. He expressed gratitude for hosting the Ukriane mine action conference immediately after taking office. He also conveyed appreciation for Japan's extensive support across a wide range of fields and stated his desire to further deepen cooperation with Japan, particularly in the economic sphere.
- Furthermore, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in economic relations, including in the areas of recovery and reconstruction as well as investment agreement negotiations, and on efforts to realize peace in Ukraine. They concurred to continue working closely together.
