On September 26 (September 25 local time), Mr. AKAHORI Takeshi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting New York, the United States of America, attended the United Nations Security Council High Level Open Debate on “Artificial Intelligence and International Peace and Security,” which was convened on September 24 and 25 local time. The overview is as follows:
- Senior Deputy Minister AKAHORI attended the United Nations Security Council High Level Open Debate on “Artificial Intelligence and International Peace and Security,” and made a statement on behalf of the Government of Japan.
- In his statement, Senior Deputy Minister AKAHORI emphasized that, Japan remains committed to actively and constructively engaging in international discussions, with the aim of achieving a common understanding in the international community through balanced discussions that take into account humanitarian considerations and security perspectives in order to build an appropriate international AI governance structure to mitigate its risks and to realize “safe, secure, and trustworthy AI.”
